Social Media Bringing Sustenance to the Streets

When you think of Mobile Food, you think ice cream trucks, roach coaches, nasty examples of horribly unhealthy, dirty food carts & trucks. The bearable hotdog stands may be the only mobile foods you may not wince at. There is a trend happening now though, of respectable chefs who are taking to the streets to get their food to where the people are. So how are people finding them if there is no brick & mortar location? Social Media, of course. Think Foursquare, twitter and Facebook people!
With all the smart phones out there pinging us with updates from our mobile tweetdecks and other social media apps, we can always know where this new breed of restaurateurs is “hanging out”. Take Chef Dave Dejour, for instance in San Diego. He is always keeping the masses informed of his roaming deliciousness. Just follow his tweets @davedejour and you’ll see what I mean.
This is not just about the local little guys. No! Indeed the big box food chains are catching on to the trend… Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, Taco Bell. Read Likeable Media’s Article Mobile Food and Social Media: The Ultimate Pairing to see how it’s it’s done on the uber-scale.
